These maps were created in the period 1920-1931 by the Kentucky Geological Survey. They vary in size from about
2 feet by 2 feet to as large as 3 feet by 3 feet or larger. They are very detailed, showing towns, churches, schools,
roads, railroads, creeks, rivers, and other landmarks, some of which had disappeared even by the time the maps were
created, and some having been gone for many years, yet were still shown on the maps. For the Jackson Purchase counties
in Kentucky that were a part of the TVA Kentucky Lake Project in the late 1930’s, these maps offer a “last look” at
Marshall and Calloway counties as they were prior to the creation of Kentucky Lake, which flooded parts of both counties.
The same is true for the maps of Trigg, Livingston and Lyon Counties, which reflects the area known as the “Land Between
the Rivers” prior to that area having been declared a national park and the families evicted. Current county maps available are for Hickman, Christian, Caldwell, Carlisle, Todd, Trigg, Logan, Livingston, Hopkins, Warren, Green, Woodford, Anderson, Casey, Adair, Franklin, Jefferson, Lyon, Crittenden, Graves, Calloway, Ballard, Fulton, Marshall & McCracken counties.
