WILLIAMS, Mattie Feltner was born Oct 15, 1903 and Passed this life Aug
15, 1985, making her stay on life 81 years, nine months and 14 days. Sister
Mattie was untied in marriage to Marion William who receded her in death. To
This union was born one son George who was killed in the Air Force. She was a
faithful member of the Old Regular Primitive Baptish church several years ago.

PATRICK, Dosie was born Nov 27, 1903 and departed this life May 5,
1985 being 81 years, 5 months and eight days. She was baptized a member of the
Bough Camp Primitive Baptist Church. Sister Dosie was married to the late Dial
Patrick on Sept 22, 1921. To this union was born seven Children two preceding
her in death. Surviors are daughters Mabel, Eva, Mildred, and Mavis. and one son

GODSEY, Godsey was born May 8, 1912 and departed this life July 17,
1985, making his stay on earth 73 years and two months. Bro Drew leaves to mourn
his passing his loving wife Elizabeth Walters Godsey. To this union was born one
son, James L Godsey, Also surviving are his daughter in law, Joy; two grandsons,
Jeffery and Gregory, Two greatgrandsons, Jeffery and Brian Thomas; and one

KASEE, Dora was born March 9 1904 and passed from this life March 7
1985. She was a member of the Old Buckhorn Primitive Baptish Church. She will be

SMITH, Irvin was born April 2, 1925, and Passed away June 24, 1985 in
Dayton Ohio. His stay on earth was 60 years and two months and twenty two days.
He leaves to morn his wife Jo. Three sons, four daughers, two brothers and three

MONTGOMERY, Hattie was born Oct 23 1902 and passed away, April 29,
1985. She was married to Eddie Montgomenty, who preceded her in death March 28,
1975. Surviving are two daughters Eunice and Desadrea, one son Mitchell, one
brother and fours sisters. Burial was in the Montgomery Cemetery.
HIGGINS, Troy was born June 8 1899 and passed away Aug 12 1985. He was
married to Della Caldwell on April 28 1916. Left to mourn are his wife Della,
two sons, Lacy and Robert, five daughters, Mrs William Duffield, Mrs Robert
Schalk, Mrs Ralph Luzader, Mona Taylor and Opal Morrison. He was a member of the
Carty Primitive Baptist Church for 16 years.
ARNETT, Kash was born April 30, 1908, and passed away July 26, 1985.
He was a member of the Carty Primitive Baptist Church. He leaves to mourn his
daughter, Jane Coates and two sisters.
HOLIDAY, Mima was born Nov 8, 1888 and departed this life June 28,
1985. She was 96 years, 5 months and twenty eight days old. She leaves to mourn

SANDERS, Jacob, born in Pike Co. Ky Oct 27, 1841. In Oct 1861 he
joined the Confederate Army . He was married to Mahulda Ison in 1862 and to that
union was born, five boys and three girls. In 1909 he joined the Regular Baptist
Church and was baptized by Elder G. W. Powell. He lived a humble Christian life

CAUDILL, Roger Dale was born May 6 1947 and was killed in Action in
Vietnam April 29 1967. He was orn at Whitesburg, Ky to Mildred Caudill Bedwell.
He was brought up in the home of Curtis and Mary Caudill as their own son. After
high school, he went to Venice, Ill and worked for a year and then got his call
to the Armed Forces and left on Aug the 2, 1966.---Written by a heart broken

He was the son of Jef and Clarendia Hall. June 11, 1907 he was married to Ida
Francis and to this union was born 2 children, Kelly in Detroit, Mich and Stella

RITCHIE, James, was born Feb 17, 1894 and deceased this life May 11,
1967. He married Jane Napier and to this union was born 3 children, one boy Ivan
who preceded him in death and two girls, Margaret Erickson of Mich and Sarah
Slone of Hindman, Ky. Jane proceeded him in death in 1944 and later he met and
married Zillah Young. He was known by all as Durd Ritchie and was the son of
Uncle Bill and Aunt Kate Ritchie of Clear Creek Baptist Church.
MULLINS, Agnes was born June 22, 1933 and deceased Mar 10 1965. She was
the daughter of Elder Mart Patrick and sister Luna Patrick. She married to Iva
Mullins and to this union was born four children. One proceded her hin death,
Lester Mullins. She leaves to mourn, her husband Iva, her daughters Sharon Kay,
Maxine and Laura Marie Mullins, Also two sisters Elzie Ritchie and Eltra Hicks.
She joined the Little Rose Church in Knott Co. Ky Aug 8 1961. ---Steve Pratt.
HOLLIDAY, Benton was born May 11, 1913 to Monroe and Lucinda Holliday.
He lived here on earth, 53 years 7 months and 24 days. Left to morn are his
mother Lucinda, wife Martha , sons, J B, Loren Thomas, James Benton, daughters,
Bevian Everage, Glenna Amburgey, Mae Oman, Elizabeth Carol and Burnett. He
joined the Little Rose Church in Knott Co, Ky in 1952
HOGG, Jane was born April 18, 1884, and deceased this life July 27,
1867. She was the daughter of William and Polly Shepard Hall. Early in life she
met and married William Caudill, to this union was born 2 sons and her husband
and both sons proceded her in death. Later in life she met and married Kelly
Hogg and to this union was born 2 sons and 4 daughters. The are Blackburn Hogg,
Lee Hoggs, May Boggs, and Panny Day all of Kingscreek, Ky and Eulah Miller,
Gualy Bridge, W Va and Millie Wright of Lawrenceburg, Ind.
VANCE, Rosa was born Nov 21, 1888 and deceased this life Nov 9 1965
She was the daughter of Tommy and Nancy Goins. She was married to Richard D.
Vance Dec 9 1909 and to this union was born; Otis Vance, Mallie Ky, Bruce at
Wooten Ky, Woodrow at Colson, Ky, Albert at Thornton, Ky R D Vance of Detroit
Mich, Bonnie Vance of Detroit also, Bertha Vance of Colson Ky, Nelta Belle and
Iola Vance preceded her in death. One sister, Pearlie Paterson of Trenton
Georgia, Five brothers, Louis Goins, Bill, Noah and Henry Going of Thornton Ky
and Clay Goins of Whitesburg, Ky survive her. She joined the Regular Baptist

1960.She was the daughter of Brother Charlie Madden and Aunt Sally Madden. She
was married to Delza Bwoen, July 4 19??. She has left to mourn, her husband,
Delza, daughters Inez Pratt of Carr Creek, Irene Cornett of Morehead, Ky,
Francis Parks of Savannah Tenn, Patsy Jo Montgomery of Louisville, Ky, Peggy

SMITH, Nancy was born Oct 28 1876 and departed this life June 9 1960,
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mariah Combs Stacy. She was
married to Alex Smith and to this union was born three children. Her husband and
all her children proceded her in death. One sister Mariah Smith of Hazard, Ky
and one Brother, Walter Stacy of Clay County survive her. She joined the old
Regular Baptist church In 1952.
BROWN, Susanna was born Feb 24, 1926 and deceased Feb 11, 1961. She
was the daughter of William E and Polly Bown. She married Anthony C Day, Sr July
2, 1913 and to this union was born Clyde, William Edward, Anthony Jr, Thelma,
Dalna, Janetta and Drucilla, Anthony Jr procedes her in death by some three
years. She joined the Big Cowan Church in 1939.
MADDEN, Charlie was born Jan 19 1884 and deceased May 25, 1960. He was
the son of Peter and Jane Maddin. He was married to Bell Amburgey in 1910. And
to this union was born Devada who died in infancey, Edgar of Jackson Mich, Odis
of Red Fox Ky, Dalma Ward of Marion Ind. He had 3 brothers, John of Colson Ky,
Will and Amos both dead, eight sisters, Sarah and Cora both living, Nancy,
Rebecca, May, Susan and Polly all deceased. Charlie was later married to Pollie
C.Combs in Sept 1954. No children to this union---written by his wife Pollie
Maddin.
FUGATE, Gabe was born March 28 1890 and decease this life Nov 10,
1960. He was united June 1909 to the daughter of lawyer Jason Richie of Talcum,
Ky. To this union was born James Fugate who preceded him in death along with his
wife Jimmey and left him heartbroken and lonely. He never did good after their
deaths. He has brothers Richard and Jim Fugate and sister Judy Fugate who
survives him.
WHITAKER, Soloman Haden was born May 4, 1898 and deceased May 2, 1960.
He was the son of George and Rebecca Whitaker. He met and married Lona May
Richardson. Nine children were born with one preceding him in death in infancy.
He leaves two brother H D Whitaker of Waynesburg Ky, Robert Whitaker of Hindman
and one sister Sarah Jane Massey of Richmond Ky and one half brother Lee Dixon

was the son of William S Amburgey and Nervinna Pratt Amburgey. He was married to

NEACE,Laura departed this life May 3, 1974 and was the age of 86
years, 11 months and 24 days. She was married to Cager Neach in 1907 who
departed this life on Jan 13 1965 at the age of 77 years. They reaised eight
children of whom sever are living. Survivors are Martha McQueen of Gays Creek,
Ky, Malcom Neace of Gays Greek, Cinda Farler of Barwick, Ky, Sam Neace of Lamont
Ky, Jerry Neace of Newport Ky. McKinley Neace of Gays Greek Ky.
SEBASTIAN, Eliza Jane departed June 8, 1972 She was the wife of
Bradley Sebastian. They had six sons, Rev Hiram Sebastian, John Green Sebastian,
Virgil Seymore Sebastian and Alwx Sebastian all of Newport Ky. Three daughters,
Julia Raleigh, Alma Gross, and Nannie McIntosh. ---written by her sisiter in law

SEBASTIAN, Charlie was born Dec 25 1899 and departed July 11 1974 at
the age of 74. He left behind is wife Dora Sebastian. Two sons Richard and John,
five daughters Rose Cente, Susie Turner, Clara Allen, Hannah Sebastian and Laura
Elizabeth Hearld. He is also survived by two brothers, Newton, and Elihu, and
four sisters, Hannah Shakelford, Elizabeth Johnson, Laura Turner, and Linda
Hearld. He served as a faithful member of the old Regular Baptist since May
1936.
MULLINS, Joe was born March 22 1905 and expired April 2 1974. He was
the son of James and Millie Mullins of Breathitt Co. Ky. His survivors are his
wife, Lizzie, three sons, Joe Mullins Jr, Eugene and , Clarence Mullins. Six
daughters, Hazel Daniels, Cassie Howard, Geraldine Gwinn, Jane Ann Vires, Rosa
Lee Haney, and Wanda Fayee Fugate.----written by his son Elder Eugene Mullins.
GRIFFITH, Boyd deceased Feb 18 1974. He was born in the home of Dan
Griffith and Dora Turner on Aug 9 1907 on Clsom Creek in Breathitt co. Ky. He
was a member of the Shoulderblade Regular Baptist Church for 36 years. He
married Edna Spencer on Nov 8 1930. To this union was born one Son Boyd Edward
Griffith and two lovely Grandchildren Isaac and Cinthy. ---written by his wife

COLLINS, Mary was born in 1894 and expired Jan 26 1972. She was
married to Kash Baker who died Aug 16 1944. To this union was born 2 boys and 5

NEW, Eli was born March 29 1897 and died March 5, 1972 His survivors
include four sons, Edd, Ralph, Glenis and Russell and one step son Wallace
Smith, four daughters Mae, Freda, Thelma, Eulajean and one stepdaughter Inis.
One brother Willie and one sister Molly ---Mountain Association.
STAMPER, Dema passed away June 24 1972. She was married to Newt
Sebastina on Jan 17 1917. To this union were born two sons both proceed her in
death. She was amember of the Old Canoe Fork Regular Baptist church of the
Mountain Associaton.
MULLINS, Daniel was born Nov 21 1889. He married Sylvania Gwinn. They
had 13 children of which six of them passed away. Rev Daniel Mullins was always
a Minister. He raised two son who are ministers. His father James Mullins was a
minister. His uncle Elias Mullins was a minister. Daniel preached at
Leatherwood, Ten mile Creek, Grapevine, Strong Branch Church, Sulphur Gap and

MURRELL, T. H. of Onedia , Ky his statement on Aug 6 1943 age 82 years
old and lived at the mouth of Red Bird . I heard my grandfather talk about
Daniel Duff being a wonderful preacher. I knew about Burning Springs
Association. And I knew the father of Bro Burton. I have preached in the Burning
springs Association. My father talked the Red Bird Associaton into splitting up.
A man by the name of Robert Smith tore it up over Apposita Doctorine and a part
of the church went with him to make up the Booneville Association and the other
churches that followed Daniel Duff and Nathin Arrowood, and Moses Mays was
considered the legal churches of the Red Bird Association and called themselves
the Mountain Association.
JOHNSON, Charlie was born Feb 13 1903 and departed Oct 14 1971. He was
the son of Mrs Maury Johnson. He was married April 15 1923 to Lydia Combs and to
this union was born 11 children. 3 boys and 8 girls. Three proceeded him in
death. He leave to morn his sister Lydia Johnson.
GODSEY, Martha was the daughter of late Charles Godsey and Millie
Combs Godsey and was born Nov 3 1874 and departed Sept 1971. She married Wesley
Campbell to to them were born seven children, 3 boys and 4 girls. She joined the
Mt Carmel Church at the ate of 95 years July 3, 1968. She leaves behind one
brother, 3 daughters, one son.
GRIFFITH, Johnny was born April 3 1880 and departed this life Dec 6,
1971. He married Mimia Combs who proceeded him in death. They had 12 children of
which four proceeded him in death. He leaves 6 sons and one daughter to mourn
him. He was a member of the Canoe Fork Church for a number of years.
KEETON,Rosetta Keeton was born March 1, 1885 She was the daugher of the
late Harm Keeton and Mary Mandy Eldridge Keeton. She passed away Dec 31, 1978 at
theage of 91 years. She married Charley Roseberry who proceded her in death. She
leaves to mourn her two brothers, Leader of Crockett Ky and spence of Martha Ky.
She joined the Crockett Primitive Baptist Church in 1953.
CAMPBELL, Eliza was born Aug 5 1893 and died Dec 27 1978. She was 85
and was the daughter of the late Walter and Winnie Holliday Campbell. She
married to Stanley Williams who survives. She joined the Orthodox Primitive
Baptist Church at Ary, Ky in Sept 1968.
KEETON,Eady was born Oct 8 1906 and pass from this life March 28 1979.
She was united in Marriage to Sanford Keeton on Jan 20, 1924. To this union were
born Mary Lang of West Liberty Ky, Nettie Pawers of West Liberty Ky7, Gracie
Dulen of West Liberty Ky, Nancy Nickle of Foster Ky, Ruthann Sparks of Dayton
Ohio, Neelie Gamble of Mima Ky. 3 sons Cecil of Mima Ky, Clifford of Mima Ky,
Cylde of Mima Ky. 2 children already deceased, four sisters, Mandie Beekman
Washington of Portsmouth Ohio, Bullie Sayers of New Holland Ohio, Lexie William
of Chillicothe Ohio, Della Dixan of Chillicothe Ohio and one brother Crumwell
Hill of Mima Ky. Her parents were Jake N. Hill and Margaret Ann Cantrell Hill.
HOLBROOK, Ervin was born May 18 1892 and a son of the late Elilaha and
Elizabeth Hughes Holbrook. He was united to Lula Pelfrey on Feb 30, 1912. To
this union were born, Hershell, Oral, Buel of West Liberty Ky, Flora Helton, of
West Liberty, Mrs Lottie Smith of Mima Ky, and Mrs Jewell Ison of Blaine Ky. He
is also survived by one sister, Mry Myrtle Hill, one half brother Crawford
Holbrook, one half sister Mr Renavere Smith Bath of West Liberty Ky. He died Oct
13, 1975 at West Liberty Hospital.
SMITH, Thurman age 76 of Rt 3 Mt Sterling died Mar 28. 1976. He was
born May 5, 1899 in Morgan Co, Ky and was the son of the late Allie and Mary
Melassie Keeton Smith. Survivors are his wife, Stella Roseberry Smith of West
Liberty Ky. Sons Norman Walter, Boyd Smith of West Liberty, Argus Smith of
Fairborn Ohio, a daughter Lyda Harper of Mayslick Ky, Three sisters Ida Gillium
of Graden Grove California, Mrs Phobe Adams and Mrs Earl Owens of Ashland Ky.
Burial was in the Mary Pact Cemetery at West Liberty Ky.
SMITH, Ella Smith was the daughter of J Rufus and Sarah Jane Adkins
Lemaster. She was born Sept 30 1910 and was united to Malcom Smith Oct 2 1928.
To this union was born seven children. She is survived by her husband, and two
children, Mrs Sarah Robbins and Wendall Smith. Two stepchildren Mrs Thelma Adams
and Kenneth Smith.
SMITH, Shelby F. was born July 19 1906 a son of Thomas and Liddie
Williams Smith. He was united in marriage to Belva Ward Dec 24 1925. Their
children are Mrs Vauda Whitt, Mrs Elizabeth Elam, Mrs Linnie McNeal, McCoy Smith
and Harvey Smith all of Ashland, Ky. He is also survived by his wife and two
brothers, E M Smith, and Jessie Smith and 3 sisters Mrs Amanda Roseberry , Mrs
Lucy Pelfrey and Mrs Mattie Keenton. Also one Uncle Winston V Smith, 2 Aunts,
Mrs Edna Baily and Mrs Walker Williams Mrs Thomas Williams. He joined the Lacy
Valley Church May 2, 1940.
FYFFE, Martha was born at Moon, Ky July 13 1889 and was a daugher of
the George and Louvine Fyffe. She was united in marriage to Arch Dawson May 17
1911. And to this Union were born, Elbert, Alms and Estille who have proceded
her in death. She is survived by her husband one son James Dawson and four
daughters Mrs Bessie Keeton, Mrs Louvene Canale, Mrs Ruth Kneisser and Mrs Snowy
Smith. Also three sisters Mrs Barbra Gilliam, Mrs Amandy Hay, and Mrs Della
Sparks. She was 86 at the time of her death Feb 19 1975 at West Liberty Ky
Hospital.
GAMBILL, Chillie was born Nov 13 1909. Son of Lonzie and Victory
Cantrell Gambill. He married Lula Cantrell who proceded him in death. To this
union was born Mrs Vertaie Gladis Cantrell and Bronson Cambille. Also five
brothers, Floyd, Hatfield, Joe, John R, and Haney, Four sisters, Mrs Millie
Wright, Mrs Angie Wright, Mrs Millie Wright , Mrs Betty Cantrell. He died at his
home May 24 1975.
FERGUSON, James H (Hady) of Moon, Ky died Sept 16 1974 in West
Liberty. He was born Aug 9 1892 at Moon Ky and a son of the late William Isaac
and Mary Skaggs Ferguson. He was married to Cora E Gibson on Oct 20 1920. To
this union was born Dorothy Williams of West Liberty Ky and Ford Ferguson of
Waverly Ohio. He belonged to the Free Masons.
WALLEN, Audra was born May 22 1930 a son of the late Sanford and
Fannie Ferguson Wallen. He was united in marriage to Wilma Ruth Holbrook July 2,
1956. To this union was born no Children. He is survived by his wife and one
daugher from a former marriage, Mrs Yolonda Pennington. Also three brothers
Ballard and Goebell of West Liberty and Gaylord of Welst Liberty. Two sisters
Mrs Oval Ferguson and Mrs Mitchel Keeton of West Liberty. The time of his death
was Dec 30, 1973.
SMITH, P. born July 6 1880 s son of the late Cove and Vicy Cantrell
Smith. He was united in marriage to Bertha Blevins Nov 12 1902. And to this
union was born three children, Mrs Pearlie Jones, Mrs Amanda Smith, and Mrs
Mavie Ball. His wife departed April 30 1969. He was 93 years old at the time of
his death, June 15, 1974 at the Paintsville Hospital.
CONLEY, Susaner age 87 of Fuget died July 24, 1974. Burial was in the

William Isaac and Mary Skaggs Ferguson. Her husband passed away in 1959. She is
survived by three sons, Edgel of Fugel Ky, Bill of Flat Gap Ky, James Conley of
Mich. Two daughters, Mrs Monnie Sparks of Blaine Ky, and Mrs Mary E Stapleton of
Volga Ky and a brother James Hayden Ferguson of Crockett Ky.
SMITH, Catherine Age 31 wife of Jesse J Smith of Conover Ohio died
Thusday Jan 21 1971 at Pique Ohio. She was born Aug 20, 1939 in Morgan County Ky
and was a daugher of Rev Lonnie and Lua Cantrell Wright of Dingus. She is
survived by husband and parents and sic children, Judy, Janet, Jennie, Hattie,
Breand, and Frank all at home. Six sisters, Mrs Dosha Wright and Mrs Virgie
Holbrook of West Liberty, Mrs Ellen Allen of Sidney Ohio, Mrs Mabel Young and
Shirley Wright of Silverhill and Mrs lula Gay Bolin of Pique Ohio and three
brothers, Buford of Fariborn Ohio, Clyde of Dayton Ohio, and Bud Wright of Pique
Ohio.

ADDINGTON, Filmore born 3/18/1861, died 10/22/1930, married Nancy
Bentley in 1880. They had 4 daughters and 3 sons, 2 died in infancy, the others
are living. 3 of the daughters were members of the ORB Church. He joined the ORB
church and was ordained to preach in 1895. He preached his last sermon at Bethel
Church at a foot washing meeting, using the text: "Thus in one house shall it be
eaten." His sons were named Calvin and Johnny. Calvin lived in Cincinnati. The
writer states,"Children, I want you to respect, Katie, his wife, for she has
done all she could for him..." This suggests that he may have married a second
time although the writer does not make that clear. The same suggestion, however,
can be found in her final statement which suggests that her natural mother is
deceased while he father's wife, Katie, is still living: "So dear brethren and
sisters, each of you pray, down in the grave where father and mother were laid."

ROBINSON, Mary D. born 8/3/1875, died 10/3/1927 was married to Elder
Hiram N. Rose 11/24/1892. She was the daughter of Anna Mullins Robinson who was
the daughter of Andrew Jackson "Brandy Jack" Mullins. She initially joined the
Freewill Baptist Church ca 1890 but wanted to be baptized by Elder John E. Rose
of the ORB Church, which the Freewill Baptists would not allow. She then joined
the ORB Church and was baptized by Elder John E. Rose and lived in that faith
until her death. She was survived by her husband, 5 sons, John C., Samuel
Patton, Swinfield, Ira and Maston and 2 daughters, Lottie Ann McCoy (Mrs. Ted)
and Healthy Mullins (Mrs. Willard). John C. Rose was a member of the ORB Church;
the other children were not. Written in 1931 by her oldest son, John C. Rose.

McCOY, Marion L. born in Wise Co., VA., 7/22/1849, died 4/30/1930, was
married to Rebecca Rose in 1871. They had 7 sons and 4 daughters. He was
survived by 6 sons, 3 daughters and 2 sisters. He joined the Caney Fork Church
of the ORB. Written by his son, J. L. McCoy.
McCOY, Charlie Patten born 8/27/1883, died 4/4/1931, was buried at his
home on Caney Ridge. "He happened with an accident in his home and was removed
to the Clintwood Hospital. While there an abscess formed on his gall bladder,
which caused his death." He was the son of Marion L. and Rebecca Rose McCoy. He

ROSE, Rebecca born 9/19/1847, died 9/19/1919, was the daughter of
Elder John E. and Charlotte (Birchfield) Rose. She joined the ORB Church at
Sandy Ridge in 1867 and moved her membership to Caney fork in 1872. "She was a
member of the arm that constituted the Caney Fork Church." She married Marion L.
McCoy in 1871; they had 7 sons and 4 daughters, 1 son, Charlie Patten McCoy, and
1 daughter, Lottie McCoy Stanley, preceded her in death. She was crippled with
rheumatism and walked on crutches for 20 years before her death from influenza.

BUMGARDNER Duran, born 2/13/1887, died 6/19/1930, was married to Cora
Mullins, the daughter of Sam and Polly Ann Mullins, about 1910. They were the
parents of 4 sons and 3 daughters, all living. He died from tuberculosis. He
joined the ORB Church 5/18/1930 and was baptized by Elder Mart Burke, after
being carried to the water. The author of this obituary is not listed.
HILL, Milly born about 1852, died 4/15/1931, was married to Cane Hill.
They had 10 children, 8 living. She was baptized into fellowship of the Mount
Olive Church by Elder J. C. Swindall ca 1900. Written by her son, Basil Hill.
HALL, Elder B. B. born 7/2//1886, died 4/13/1931, was married to Elsie
Sanders 11/26/1907; they had 5 sons and two daughters, all living. He joined the
ORB Church the 2nd Saturday in March 1917 and continued in the faith until the
1st Saturday in December 1924 when he joined the United Baptist Church and lived
a faithful brother until his death. He had sons named, Ray and Jack. Written by

and Matilda Mullins. He married first, Annie Mullins, daughter of Jim and Nancy

1916. Ca 1920, he married Rachel Tackett; they had 3 sons and 2 daughters, all
still living. He was survived by 10 children, his wife, Rachel, 3 brothers and 1

HUNT, Dydia born 7/9/1881, died 2/21/1931, was the daughter of Mat and
Martha Hunt and was married to Ance Rowe. They had seven sons and four
daughters. She was survived by her parents, her husband and 7 children. She had
daughters named Lacy and Marie. "She professed a hope in Christ about 32 years

Pricy Thacker. She married Beverly Kinney; they had 3 children. She was survived

and was ordained a deacon ca 1910. He had a severe stroke 1 year before his

SANDERS, Sarah A. born 6/29/1843, died 3/26/1931, was married to James
Ratliff; they had 10 children, 4 still living. She joined the ORB Church about
1901 and was baptized by Brother Enoch Belcher and attached herself to the Cedar

Francis Adkins, widow of Wite Adkins, who had 3 children. G. W. Ramsey and

Mary E. Ramsey 12/13/1930. He was survived by his wife, Mary E. Ramsey, 8

BARTLEY, Jane born 12/25/1893, died 10/1929, was married to Rev.
Willie Gibson ca 1907. They had 10 children, 6 living: Charles, Kit, Kelcie,

THACKER, Dan born 6/12/1856, died 7/17/1931, was married to Sophia
Robinson; they had 4 sons and 6 daughters. Four of the children had joined the
ORB Church. He joined the ORB church the 3rd Saturday in 1909; shortly
thereafter he was ordained as a minister. His father had died when he was 6
years old. He was buried at the graveyard at the mouth of Lower Pompey. Written

Richard and Mohala R. Coleman. She married John A. Damron 3/27/1901; they had 5

baptized by Elder George W. Powell. Her husband was a minister. She was survived

Damron who preceded her in death by about 3 years. They had 5 sons and 7

late in their lives, Susie and Lee Compton lived with Ben H. Bentley until both
Comptons died. Lee Compton had 1 son, 2 sisters and 1 brother living at the time
of his death. He joined the ORB Church at Rock House ca 1934. His funeral was

Allen and Susie Vanover. She married Dee McCoy, 3/14/1907; they had 8 children,

This was her request to put on her tombstone: "Remember me as you pass by, as
you are now so once was I' as I am now, you soon shall be, so prepare to follow
me." Her funeral was preached in August 1939 by J. C. Swindall, B. H. Baker,

James and Ida Bolling. She married Jim Stidham, 4/20/1921; they had 5 children,

BAKER, James Edward (Ed) born 10/13/1882, died 1/21/1938, married Rosa
Keel, 7/12/1904; they had 8 sons and 4 daughters, all still living. He joined
the ORB church and was baptized in 1915 by Elder Ira Mullins. He began preaching
in 1917 and served the Lebanon Church as moderator from 1928-1938. On his death
bed he said to his wife, "Mama, there is the little angels that I told Junior
was coming after me. Tell the boys that I am going on home and for them to come
and go along with me." Written by his bereaved companion, Rosa Keel Baker. The
children of James Edward (Ed) Baker and Rosa Keel Baker include, Garfield Baker,
Earl Baker, Grady Baker, Hardaway Baker, Walter Baker, Stewart Baker and Effie
Baker Farmer Molinary, all of the Clintwood, VA. Area.
CANTRELL, Albert Cantrell, born /8/1860 and died 2/3/1938, was the son
of Isaac Cantrell. He married Sylvia Helton, 10/27/1881 Pike County, Ky; they
had 8 sons and 2 daughters. He joined the ORB church and was baptized 5/30/1937.
His dying words were: "I am ready to go; there is nothing in my way. Tell my
children to meet me in heaven." This obituary has no author listed.
SOWARDS, Frona born 5/30/1910, died 3/3/1938, was the daughter of
Creed and Liza Ann Sowards. She joined the ORB church 5/31/1933 and was baptized
by Richard Stanley. "This little sister was afflicted at the age of four years,
leaving her a cripple for life." Written by Bertha Addington.
FULLER, Phoebe born in 1845, did 12/23/1936, was the daughter of
George and Sarah Fuller. She married to Willoughby Deel in 1864; they had 2 sons
and three daughters, 2 sons and 2 daughters preceded her in death. She joined
the ORB church in 1916. She and her husband were ordained Deacon and Deaconess

ELKINS, Tommy Alvin born 4/29/1937, died 2/1938, was the only son of
W.Creighton. and Mary (Mullins) Elkins. He died of pneumonia. His mother was a
member of the ORB church; his father was not, nor was his uncle who wrote the
obituary, T. Alvin Mullins.
BLAIR, Lizzie Blair, born 2/24/1872, died 7/6/1938, had one sister,
Mollie (Mrs. John) Rasnick and at least one brother, Bill ??, who lived in
Cincinnati. She was the mother of 6 children. She was a member of the ORB
church. One of her sons may have been named, Charles. Written by her sister,

PRESLEY, Maggie V. born 3/13/1861, died 2/23/1938, was the daughter of
Jefferson and Margaret Presley. She married W. C. Owens ca 1920; they had 12
children, 9 still living. She joined the Russel Prater ORB church in 1901 and
"...lived a true Christian life until her dream was fulfilled. She dreamed she
was in the room in which she died with one of her sisters in Christ, whom she
loved dearly, to-wit: Catherine Kiser. While asleep she seemed in fear and told
mother she beheld something. Mother put her arms around her and tried to comfort
her and told her to fear not...but she looked and beheld a man in white rainment
in a cloud. She spoke to him and asked him what he wanted. He answered, 'I am
your Lord and Savior, Jusus Christ, and have come to require your soul, giving a
date which included a 6. She thought it would be 6:00 the next morning, though
we believed it was in her 56th year. She woke daddy rejoicing in her sleep. He
asked her what was wrong. Then she told him this sweet dream. She then was
perfectly calm and filled with joy for she had suffered long and prayed to die.
They slept no more during the night, thinking she would meet her Savior at 6:00
the following morning although her call didn't come until her 56th year."

COLLIER, Hattie born 6/23/1902, died 3/13/1937. She married R. B.
Potter in 1922; they had 2 daughters and 4 sons, all living. Her parents, her
husband, and 1 sister were still living at the time of her death. "Hattie
suffered with ulcers of the stomach for about 3 years; then she underwent an
operation at the Seco hospital from which she never recovered. While in the
hospital, she professed a hope in Christ and joined the Elizabeth Church of the

HOGG, Hattie born 12/23/1882, died 7/29/1938, married George W. Hogg
in 1899. They had 7 children, all living at the time of her death, as well as
her husband.. She joined the ORB church in 1918 and was baptized by Haynes

OWENS, Polly Jane born 12/24/1871, died 8/14/1932, was the daughter of
Henry and Nancy Owens. She Married Emory Deel ca 1885; they had 5 sons and 5
daughters; 5 children as well as her first husband preceded her in death. She
joined the ORB church in 1914 and was a member until her death. Her second
husband was L. T. Blankenship. She died from injuries 7 hours after having been

MULLINS, Nancy born 12/25/1843, died 5/27/1838, was the daughter of
Wilson and Rebecca Mullins. She married John Cantrell, 6/17/1864; they had 11
children, 6 living. She joined the ORB church 6/22/1865 and was a member for 73

BOLLING, Sarah b 2/29/1848, died 9/29/1936, was married to Elihu
Bartley. They had 8 sons and 5 daughters, 7 still living. She joined the Pine

ROBINSON, Mary Zilpha Boggs, born 12/25/1875, died 2/8/1934, was the
daughter of James and Sidno Robinson. She married Eli Boggs in 1896; they had 7
sons and 3 daughters, 4 sons and 3 daughters still living, as was her husband.
She joined the ORB church in August 1917 and was baptized by Ira Mullins.

Elizabeth ? Hay (1/9/1869-1/6/1937), He never joined the church. His wife joined

BURCHETT, Helen born 4/10/1869 in Lawrence Co., KY, died ??, married
G. W. Large, 10/14/1886. They had 6 sons and 4 daughters, 2 died in infancy, 7
still living, as was her husband. She was a member of the ORB church since age

WRIGHT, John C. born 1/2//1906, died 6/23/1938, was the son of James
and Cora Wright. He married Mayme Sturgill, 2/21/192?; they had 1 child, Gloria
Wright, still living, as was his wife and his mother. He joined the ORB church
and was baptized 11/15/1936. He had to be carried to the baptizing on a
stretcher. He had a sister named, Hazel, who helped care for him in his last

ADKINS, Peter B. born 6/16/1858, died 12/8/1937, married Josephine
Breeding Adams in 1878. They had 5 sons and 5 daughters, 2 sons and 3 daughters
were still living; his wife preceded him in death. He was a member of the
Rockhouse Ky ORB church. Two of his daughters were members of the church. He had
a son, Eary, who brought him to the church for his last communion service. He
had a daughter named, Eva Hill, who cared for him during his last illness.

had 2 sons and 2 daughters living at the time of his death, as was his wife. One

Luther, who wrote the obituary, which did not list any other details as to his
wife's name, nor any other children's names.
MULLINS, Mollie born 3/1864, died 3/1938, was married to Harvey
Mullins in 1882. They had 11 children, 7 living. She joined the ORB church in
1894 and was a member until her death. One son was named, Bennie. Her daughters

ROSE,Nathaniel Rose, born 10/18/1863, died 12/18/1957, was married to
Margaret Ann Rose, 4/11/1895. They had 8 sons and 5 daughters, 6 sons and 2
daughters still living. He never joined a specific church but believed in the
ORB faith and attended ORB church meetings. Written by E. J. Rose [Nathaniel
Rose was the son of Swinfield Rose and Nancy Wallace. Swinfield Rose was the son
of Elder John E. Rose, son of Elias Rose.
BOWLING, Hannah born 10/25/1861, died 12/1/1935, married Dan Bowling,
12/12/1881. They had 6 sons and 2 daughters, a son, Henry, age 6, preceded her
in death, as did her husband who died in 1911. She joined the ORB church in 1863
and took fellowship with Pine Grove Church at Lookout, Pike Co., Ky. Her sons
were named, Heen, Don, Dover, Mont and Boone; her daughters, Mary and Orph.

KISER, Lectie E. born 3/12/1902, died 7/24/1931, was the daughter of
Eugene and Sarah Kiser. She married John C. Rose [the son of Elder Hiram N.
Rose], 7/24/1920; they had five children [Virgie, Carson, Delbert, Hiram Jack
and Ava Nell], all living, as were her parents and her husband. She and her
sister, Minnie R. Kiser Hylton both joined the ORB church and were baptized the
same day by Elder Ira Mullins, in July 1930. She apparently had another sister
named, Bessie. Her sister, Minnie R. Kiser died a year before Lectie. Written by

KISER, Minnie R. born 8/30/1904, died 12/29/1930, was the daughter of
Eugene and Sarah Kiser. She married James R. Hilton in 1921; they had 5
children, all living, as were her parents and her husband. She joined the ORB
church and was baptized by Elder Ira Mullins in July 1930, the same day as her
sister, Lectie. She apparently had another sister named Bessie. Written by Reb.

MULLINS, Elizabeth Hollyfield, born 9/1844, on Bold Camp Creek in Wise
Co., VA., died 1935, was the daughter of David and Virginia Short Mullins. She
married Bartley Hollyfield, also of Bold Camp, in 1863. She joined the ORB
church in her yough and was a member until her death. She was totally blind the
last years of her life. She was the mother of 5 children; 2 died in infancy, 2
still living. Her son, Marlin A. Hollyfield died in Jan. 1916 at age 33. Her
daughter, Mrs Nancy A. Mullins, was living in 1938. Her son, William Jefferson
Hollyfield, age 74, was still living in 1938; he had been a member of the ORB
church for many years. Her husband, also a member of the ORB church, died in
1912, at age 72. She lived with her son, Marlin, until his death, then lived
most of the time with a granddaughter, Mrs. Arminta Hollyfield Potter. Written,

sisters, Arminta and ??, after their mother's death when Daniel Bartley
Hollyfield was 8 years old.
AMBURGEY, Cordelia born 1862, died 1/31/1938, joined the ORB church in
1896, at the Rebecca Church on Beaver. Apparently the Thornton Church was her
home church. Written by daughter, Carrie Amburgey. [The obituary includes a long
note written by Cordelia Amburgey 2 years before her death, in which she
admonishes her children not to grieve for her and to meet her in heaven. No

HOGSTON, Julia born 7/28/1877, died 3/13/1938, was the daughter of
William and Virginia Bentley Hogston. She married Dave Sexton who died in 1932;

ADAMS, Ben Jack born 4/3/1856, died 6/21/1938, married Elizabeth
Craft, known as "Aunt Lincoln," at an early age. They had 8 sons and four
daughters, 1 son died young; his wife preceded him in death. He joined the ORB
church at Thornton ca 1902 and was ordained to preach afterward. He made his
home with his daughter, Delcie who married Byron Kincer. Written by James L.

AMBURGEY, Green born 5/16/1863, died 2/5/1938, was married to Rose
Bowen. They had one child, both Rose Bowen Amburgey and their child preceded him
in death. He married Pollyann Everidge, who was still living, as was his
brother, Seymore Amburgey of Bath, KY. He left the following inscription on the
back of his songbook: "God forgave my sins, March 23, 1932 and I joined the
Mayking Baptist Church, April 17, 1932 and was baptised (sic), May 22, 1932."

HOPKINS, John born in Ashe Co., NC, on 12/27/1854, died 11/8/1924, was
the son of W. R. and Rosa Phillips Hopkins. His parents moved to the Beaver
section of Ky. In 1872, he married Hannah Osborn. He and his wife joined the
Joppa Church in June 1873. He entered the ministry in October 1873 and was
ordained an Elder shortly thereafter. Rosa P. Hopkins died 11/8/1924; he married
Rebecca Turner, who passed away 1/25/1926. On 5/5/1626, he married Ollie Osborn,
who survived him along with sons, John, Melvin, Joseph and Solomon of Wise, Va.
and daughters, Mrs. R. L. Baker of Keokee, Va, and Mrs. J. L. Newsome of Vergie,

LIPPS, Elder M. T., born in Shady Valley, Johnson Co., TN, 11-4-1815,
died 9-22-1894, married Elizabeth Davenport 11-29-1835 in Bakersville, N.C. His
wife died July 2, 1895, both are buried in Granger Co., TN. The family moved to
Guest's Station (now Coeburn), VA in 1838 and resided there the remainder of his
life. They had 10 children, 8 living. He joined the Primitive Baptist Church in
1844/45 and was authorized to preach 8-28-1845 and was ordained in Nov. 1846 by
Alexandria Vance and Silas Ratliff. In 1856 he was elected county and circuit
court clerk and held that office for 13 years. He was also elected to the Va.
House of Representatives in 1873 and served for 2 sessions. Written by J. M.

FRANCISCO, G. W., the son of Louis Francisco, was born in Scott Co.,
Va, 11/4/1829, died 3/6/1906. He came to Pike Co., Ky in boyhood, where me met
and married Zarrilda Osborn, daughter of Judge Jeremiah Osborn, June 1853. They
had 9 children, four boys and five girls, all living at the time of his death.
Zarrilda Osborn Francisco died 1/25/1888. G. W. Francisco married Ceatty Cook,
Widow of Elder Solomon Cook of Floyd Co., Ky. They had one child, a daughter,
age 15. He joined the Cool Spring Church of the Old Regular Baptist church
6/1880 and served as either deacon or clerk until the time of the great divide.
Being a firm believer in a "Free Salvation" he withdrew from the unorthodox
party and united with the Old Elkhorn church in which he served as deacon until
his death.
BOWLING,John D. was born 9/22/1837, died 3/4/1906. He was married to
Winnie Craft; they had 13 children, 4 boys, 9 girls. He joined the ORB Church in

Regular Baptists July 1883 and remained a faithful member until her death.

COLLEY, Winnie was born in Russell Co., Va on Dumps Creek 5/7/1880,
died 5/8/1908. She was the daughter of Elijah and Jane Breeding. She married J.
B. Colley at age 15 years, with Jonas Rasnick officiating at the wedding. They
had two children, Cora Colley and Richard D. Colley. She joined the Old Regular
Baptist Church in august 1907 and was baptized by Tira McFadden into the
fellowship of the church at Russell Fork, near the mouth of Little Fox Creek.

in 1866. She married James Hollins in 1870; they had 3 children. She was a

DALE, Elihu born 8/20/1845, died 4/13/1914, married 3 times but there
was no record of his first marriage. Second, he married Jane Lee; they had 8
children, 6 boys, 2 girls, 3 of these deceased. Jane Lee Dale was a member of
the Bull Creek ORB church for several years before her death. Third, Elihu Dale
married Dideema Clevinger; they had 3 children, 2 are still living. He joined
the church on the 2nd Saturday of Oct. 1908 and was baptized by Elder D. C.

married Mandy (Maudie) Fletcher. They had 5 children, 4 still living. He joined

last song he tried to sing was "Oh sing to me of Heaven when I am call to die,

O'QUINN, John W. born 5/7/1843, died 8/1911. He joined the Primitive
Baptist Church and was baptized into fellowship of the Johnson Bottom Church of
Washington Association. He stayed with them until they departed from the old
time faith of fathers and went to preaching the doctrine of fatalism then he
lifted his letter and went to the Cedar Grove ORB Church. He was firm believer
of free salvation by Grace. He said many times that he never swore an oath after
he was 8 years old and was never intoxicated on any strong drink but once during

DUTY, W. H. was born 2/11/1841, died 10/21/1913. He married Martha
Barnett ca 1865; they had 8 sons and 1 daughter; 1 son and 1 daughter died in
infancy; the others still living. Martha Barnett Duty died 1/3/1890. W. H. Duty
married Nancy Compton on 3/24/1891; they had 3 they had 3 they had 3 sons and 3
daughters, the sons all died in infancy. W. H. and Nancy Compton Duty joined the

PRESSLEY, James H. was born 4/16/1887, died 1/18/1914, in Lawrence
Co., Ky., was the son of J. J. and Margaret Pressley. Ca 1897, The Pressley's
moved to Dickenson Co., VA where James H. grew to manhood and was a "nice and
respectable citizen." He was survived by his wife, 4 children, his parents, 3
brothers and 2 sisters. His death was due to appendicitis for which he initially
had refused an operation. After several days, he agreed to the surgery, but it
was too late. He had a brother named George. His wife's name was Florence He had
a sister named Maggie Owens, who wrote the lengthy obituary which chronicles his
illness and his eventually successful effort to obtain salvation through praying
with Tyra McFadin and on his own.

YATES, Samuel born 6/10/1842, died 2/16/1918, married Sarah Deel ca
1865; they had 2 daughters and 5 sons, five still living. Sarah (Deel) Yates
preceded him in death. He joined the ORB Church ca 1888 and lived a member until
the divide when he went off with the hard shell side and remained with them
until he became dissatisfied then he came back by acknowledgement in the

ADKINS, Josephine born in 1861, died 8/3/1923, married Peter Adkins,
who was still living. They had 10 children, 6 still living. Her youngest
daughter died 3/26/1924 and before she died she told her brothers and sisters
that she'd seen a beautiful angel in the window and recognized it as her mother,
Josephine Adkins. She had a daughter named Eva who lived in Virginia. She had a
son named Perry. She indicated that she wanted G. W. Powell, Thomas Thacker,
James Sanders and John A. Damron to preach her funeral. She was a member of the

McCOY, Lottie born 2/7/1882, died 3/14/1924, was the daughter of
Marion and Rebecca McCoy. She married Lee Stanley, 8/2/1906; they had 7
children, 6 still living. She joined the ORB Church ca 1900. Her father,
husband, 7 children, 7 brothers, and 3 sisters were living at the time of her
death. "She was afflicted for several years but bore her afflictions with
patience. She moved to Elkhorn City, Ky and got burned out and came back to the
old home and took very ill and died at the home of her brother, Emory McCoy.

children died in infancy. She was survived by her husband, Riley Hash and 9

Stephen and Nancy Coleman. She married Elisha Boyd, 11/12/1864; they had 6 sons
and 2 daughters. One son preceded her in death. She joined the ORB Church and
was baptized by Elder Lewis Edwards. Written by her daughter, Martha Ann Deel
ARBINGTON, Brice. E. born 4/10/1868, died 11/7/1928, was married to
Louisa Deel 4/12/1888. He was survived by his wife, 3 sons and 4 daughters, all
married except the youngest daughter. He joined the ORB Church 7/4/1897 and was
baptized 4/19/1897. "This was before the divide and he remained a faithful
member, and when the divide came he stood firm and lived in the faith until he
died." He had a daughter named Louvenia Viers who owned a store. The writer
states, "So put your trust in Him for He careth for you, and, Ida, remember He
is a husband to the widow and a father to the orphan if we only trust Him..."
This suggests that the wife's name was Ida although it is listed earlier as
Louisa. The obituary does not further explain this mystery. The obituary was
written by a close neighbor, M. V. Owens.
COLLINS, John was born about 1866 and was the father of 8 children. He

BARTLEY, Jane Gibson, born 12/231892, died 10/10/1929, was the
daughter of Andy and Liddie Bartley. She married Willie Gibson 9/2/1907; they
had 6 sons and 3 daughters. She was survived by her husband, 4 sons and 2
daughters. She joined the Pine Grove Church in 1916 and was baptized by Elder
Tom Thacker. Her husband, Willie Gibson was an ORB minister. Written by J. M.

GIBSON, James born 1/17/1841, died 7/6/1930, was married first to
Almeda Bartley. They had 8 daughters and 2 sons. He was survived by 4 daughters
and 2 sons. He enlisted in the Civil War 8/9/1862 and was honorably discharged
at the close of the war. He joined the Pine Grove Church of the ORB ca 1878.
After the death of his first wife, Almeda Bartley Gibson, he married Jane
Jeffers who also joined the Pine Grove ORB Church in 1919. "They both lived
faithful members of the Pine Grove Church until they decided to go to the United
States Baptist Church. Then he and Sister Jane were given off in an arm from the
Cowpen Church on the 1st Saturday in December 1924 and was organized with the
arm that composed the Little Olive Church at Carmen, Ky, of which he lived a

waters of Three Forks of Wolf Creek, the ice had to be cut on an old mill pond

She placed her membership with the Sidney Church; in 1932 she moved her
membership to Leannah Church to help organize the Buck Creek Church, only one
member of that orginial membership still survives, Elder Shade Pauley.

VARNEY, Agnes, a widely known resident of Forest Hills, Ky and a member of
early families which settled in this region, died May 27 1975 at the age of 84.
She was the widow of William French Blackburn d: 1954, whom she wed in 1906. She
was born June 16 1890 the daughter of A. H. and Nancy (West) Varney. She was a
member of the Salem Regular Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, William
F. Blackburn, Forest Hills, Ky. and eight daughters: Pauline Lowe of Forest
Hills, Ky; Mrs. L. W. Stanley of East Beckley WVa; Mrs. J. K. Hoskins of
Pikeville, Ky; Mrs. Toney Stedle and Mrs. Jim Weiderhold of Detroit, Mich; Mrs.
John D. Potter of North Tazewell, Va; Mrs. Milford Bryant of Langley, Ky; and
Anna Grace Rumler of Lexington Ky. She had 33 grandchildren, 5 of which are
